Throughout “Interpreter of Maladies” Mr. and Mrs. Das show
no love for each other. It’s hard to believe they are married. These two exemplify how rushing into marriage at a young age leads to problems in the future.
When she told Mr. Kapasi of her affair, it’s easy to tell that Mrs. Das resents
her husband. While he gets to go out and work, she is stuck at home without any
friends to occupy her time. She is rundown and has lost all love for her
husband. By getting married so young, the Das couple didn’t allow themselves a
chance to grow as individuals and now suffer together.
Here is an article I found on marrying young. I felt that it had some good points in it that I feel reflect what I was seeing in the story.
