Another thing I noticed while reading “Sexy” was Miranda’s
infatuation with Dev’s culture. It’s interesting to me that despite having an
Indian coworker and having grown up on the same street as an Indian family,
Miranda never really showed an interest in the culture until Dev came along.
Her infatuation and desire to essentially immerse herself in the culture is a
bit concerning. Like trying to take on the mistress stereotype, I feel that
Miranda is trying very hard to be something she’s not to be Dev. While I don’t
doubt that she is genuinely interested in the culture, her strong infatuation
is concerning.
