Something that caught my attention in “Sexy” was when Miranda
went shopping for things “a mistress should have.” It bothered me that Miranda bought
all this sexy clothing just for it to sit in her closet and not be worn. She
feels that now that she’s a mistress she needs to dress a certain way and so
she spends a fair amount of money (I’m assuming) for it to not be used. Why
should the relationship that you’re in, an affair or otherwise, dictate you to
act or dress a certain way? By trying to play into the mistress stereotype, I
believe Miranda lost a bit of herself.
Here is a link to an interesting article I found about eight common mistress stereotypes that aren't true (as told by a former mistress). I thought this article did a good job of putting the stereotypes into perspective.
